Oldham Athletic Promotion Odds for 2025/26
Last updated: 7 August 2025 by Leon Marshall
Oldham Athletic are back in the EFL and hoping to continue their rise by having a good season in League Two in the 2025/26 campaign. They’ve had some squad turnover from the one that won the National League Playoffs, losing Charlie Raglan and James Norwood amongst others. It remains to be seen if the new squad can take the step up.
With the season underway, football betting sites have released their League Two outright markets — and Oldham are firmly in the mix.
Oldham’s Latest Promotion Odds
Oldham are currently 6/1 to be promoted from League Two this season. That puts them round mid-table in the betting markets. Probably a fair assumption, all things considered.

Oldham Athletic Betting Markets Available
Looking at the latest betting markets, Oldham are not really expected to challenge the top of the table. They could sneak into the playoffs if things go their way, but many other teams are favoured by the top bookies.
- To be promoted: 6/1
- To win League Two: 25/1
- Top 3 finish: 8/1
- To reach play-offs: 5/2
- To be relegated: 9/1
Several betting sites also offer specials such as Oldham to win promotion with a top scorer market – although with only Mike Fondop leading the line, this seems highly unlikely. Fondop is currently priced at 40/1 to finish top scorer in League Two. News flash: it will never happen.
Oldham Athletic 2025/26 Preview
Oldham have had a very short summer break, with the National League play-off Final being held on 1 June 2025. They’ve had barely a month to recover and crack on again. Micky Mellon must have had a tough job on his hands, and recruitment will probably be ongoing until the end of the window.
Overall, a mid-table finish will be more than acceptable, but we think some Oldham fans will be dreaming of more. We expect a slow start to the season, but if the Latics can add a good quality striker (a big if), then they could find themselves nearer the play-offs than the bottom.
Charlie Raglan might be a bit of a miss at the back, and they look pretty weak defensively behind the two starters in Manny Monthé and Donervon Daniels. Monthé doesn’t look the same since being injured, and Will Sutton is a poor back-up option. Still, they should have enough quality with Ryan Woods a top addition at this level. The team does look a bit slow, but Oldham hope Stevens and Drummond can inject some width and pace when needed.
Overall, they should not go down, but we can’t see them going up either. A couple more nice additions could change things though, so you never know.
Oldham 2025/26 Summer Signings
Oldham’s recruitment this summer has been focused on experience and one of the main criteria seems to have been playing with Micky Mellon at least once in their career. They also seem to have gone for a change of formation, with plenty of wingers being added – so expect to see some kind of 4-3-3 variation (they played mainly 3-5-2 last year). Surprisingly, at the time of writing no out-and-out striker has been added to the equation. Mike Fondop has become a bit of a cult figure for the Latics, but he is not good enough at this level, and Kian Harratt’s summer exploits (he loves a chair) have not gone down well. They did add Kane Drummond, but at 24 he needs to start producing soon.

League Two Rivals
The League Two promotion battle looks pretty open this season according to our League Two Preview. MK Dons and Chesterfield are considered as favourites. But Walsall, Grimsby, Swindon, Salford and Gillingham are all potential candidates. Obvioulsy MK Dons’ spending has made them the early favourites, but there’s always a dark horse no one talks about. It could well be someone like Barnet.
Oldham’s odds suggest they’re expected to be part of the mid-pack. With Crawley, Tranmere, and Shrewsbury all being in and around each other. Oldham’s returning EFL stature and new squad give them a solid platform to start from, but we don’t expect miracles.
Verdict: Are Oldham a Value Bet?
Oldham’s price of 6/1 for promotion is competitive given the strength of their squad. If the new signings settle early and they add a striker, they could be among the best value bets in the division. Even so, we do not expect them to get promotion this year, and it will more than likely be a season of consolidation.
