Kevin Phillips’ Expert Predictions: Transfer Rumours & World Cup Analysis
3 minutes read /

Dan Neil is confirmed at Rangers and I think he’ll be a real success up there. Granit Xhaka staying at Sunderland is fantastic news. England face Norway on Saturday and I’m backing a narrow win after extra time.
It’s been a busy transfer window – here’s everything I’m thinking about this week.
England
Morgan Rogers World Cup Value vs Bellingham
Well, Bellingham is going to be worth nearly double 130 million, isn’t he? But from his performances in the World Cup, it’s been absolutely inspirational. Morgan Rogers, I said from the outset, I’d like to see him play. He hasn’t had the minutes. But Bellingham, there was that debate, wasn’t there? Rogers or Bellingham. Bellingham’s got to be worth 200 million if Rogers is worth 130. And he’s proved his worth in this tournament. So if someone’s daft enough to pay that, then good luck to them.
Prediction – England vs Norway
Yeah, I think again, it’s going to be a tight, tight affair. Norway will obviously be desperate to get one over on us. But I think it’ll be tight all the way. I think this game could potentially go to extra time, potentially penalties. But I do see England coming through very narrowly. So I’m going to say after extra time, I’m going to go win 2-1.
Hull
Jack Butland Signing
33 is nothing nowadays. For a goalkeeper, yes, they put a lot of strain on their body, but 33 years of age is nothing. Jack looks after himself. I know him. I played with him at Birmingham. I think they’ve paid around 3 million for him. I think it could be a massive bargain. He played every minute for Rangers last year. So that’s going to help him. He’s fit. I think it could be a really, really good signing for Hull. He’s got that experience, and that’s what you need when you’re trying to stay in the Premier League. So, yeah, good signing.
Irankunda from Watford at £10m
Well, in terms of price, I think Watford paid two and a half million for him. So if they were to sell him for 10, that’s a good profit, isn’t it? Listen, do Watford need to sell him? If I was Watford, and you know, the club needs to be challenging, you need to keep hold of your better players. We saw glimpses of it last season, we saw the World Cup with that goal against Turkey, superb goal. I’d be looking to keep him, but
I understand why Hull would go for him because he’s that match winner and we’ve seen it. And that’s what you need in tight games in the Premier League when it’s late on, you need that bit of quality, and he’s got that. He needs to do it more consistently. Hasn’t scored that many goals for Watford, but if he could go to Hull and get that out of him, then he could turn out to be a good player. So 10 million, after paying two and a half, I think Watford probably need between 10 and 15 with add-ons, which would be a really good price.
Southampton
Justin Devenny as Shea Charles Replacement
I think he’s a similar type of player. He’s been at Palace for a bit now. He’s got that Premier League experience, which is a massive bonus. Southampton do need to replace Shea Charles. He just needs a run of games. He’s still very young. He can play in the centre mid, he’s an attacking midfielder as well, and he can also play wing back, so he’s quite versatile.
Until he actually gets a run of games, I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Justin. He’s got qualities; you don’t be at Palace for the time he has and play in the Premier League without having them. So, potentially, if you get him at the right price or on loan, could be one of those real shrewd moves that I think he would step into no problem whatsoever.
Come On England – And Dan Neil Will Be a Smash Hit at Rangers
England beat Norway 2-1 after extra time – I can feel it. Pickford is the best keeper we’ve ever had and he’ll be magnificent again. Dan Neil walks into that Rangers dressing room with Premier League respect and I back him to be a real success. And Granit Xhaka staying at Sunderland is the best news the fans could have asked for this summer.
