A tough group featuring the Czech Republic and Scotland makes this one of the most interesting groups and matches between two serious contenders to win the group. A good result here could be a great start to their campaign as they have the armoury to dominate the other two teams.

The Three Lions are among the favourites coming into this tournament, developing and improving in the UEFA Nations League and expecting to reach at least the latter stages of Euro2020. The two semi-finals and the final of this competition will be played at Wembley, which should motivate the England side to fight to feature in the home final. Moreover, it would be a great moment for fans to cheer on their team in person with 25% of the capacity of Wembley able to spectate the games, which would mean at least 22,500 fans.
Harry Kane scored twenty-three goals and provided fourteen assists with a combined total of thirty-eight goals for the season to win both the Golden Boot and top assist in the league. The England captain was the top scorer in the 2018 World Cup with six goals. England won seven of the eight qualifiers scoring thirty-seven goals, with Kane scoring a dozen goals. Kane is a top player, and when surrounded by quality players, he can lead the team to conquer Europe.
The biggest challenge for Gareth Southgate is the lack of a consistent starting eleven. Despite the huge talent, having a regular starting line-up allows the team to have chemistry and understanding on the pitch. Harry Maguire’s injury is the biggest blow for the side after a successful season for the Red Devils, missing just four league games all campaign.
The Premier League young player of the year, Phil Foden, would be an interesting starter after enjoying a breakthrough season with Man City, winning the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and featuring in the Champions League final. The Manchester City players are expected to bring a winning mentality alongside Chelsea’s players who have just been crowned European Champions in the all-England final. In addition, Mason Mount, who provided the assist in the final and was a dominant figure in the entire campaign, had proven himself as a big-game player. Mount has produced some good performances in his sixteen appearances for England, especially in the World Cup qualifiers. In the three games he played, he scored a goal, made an assist and had a passing success percentage of 88.5%.
The memory of the World Cup triumph over England in 2018 will inspire the Croatia camp. In that game, they were forced to come from behind after Kieran Tripper’s free-kick had given the Three Lions the lead after five minutes. Ivan Pericic cancelled out the goal in the second half before Mario Mandzukic scored an extra-time winner. The two sides have met twice since, drawing 0 – 0 before England finally had their revenge in the UEFA Nations League, winning 2 – 1. This game is a tough start for Zlatko Dalic’s side against one of the tournament’s most talented sides, especially with the match being played at Wembley Stadium.
The performance of Croatia is directly dependant on the performance of their legend and Ballon d’Or winner, Luka Modric. The 35-year-old may be in the twilight of his career, but he can still have a huge impact in games, as he showed in the last three games for Real Madrid. He took the man-of-the-match award in fixtures against Granada, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal, scoring two goals in the process.
Another player to watch is Andrej Kramaric, who plays for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga; he has netted twenty goals and will lead the line and is likely to be their main goal threat. Ante Rebic is another speedy attacker whose influence in the game goes beyond scoring but driving the ball forward but still has eleven goals for AC Milan. Finally, Ivan Pericic, who just won the Serie A with Inter Milan, is a huge prospect for the Croatia attack with his biggest threat his ability to use both feet.
Experience would be against youthful talent when the two sides face-off. The Blazers defence is likely to have a busy day at the office against a pacey and very talented attack, and their performance would decide the match.
Croatia’s style of play is not the one to outscore opponents; thus, a single goal can be the difference in this game. Domagoj Vida, and self-proclaimed best defender in the World, Dejan Lovren, have a lot of experience together, having partnered in their World Cup campaign. Lovren left Liverpool to captain Russian Premier League Side Saint Petersburg, and it will be interesting to see if the 31-year old still has the legs to commander the defence.
England will have a home crowd to cheers them on. 25% of the capacity means 22,500 fans will be in attendance.
Harry Kane was the top scorer in the 2018 World Cup with six goals comes into this tournament as the Premier League top scorer and best assist provider.
Andrej Kramaric, who plays for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, netted twenty goals.
Croatia has a proven backline of Vida and Lovren that could be out to frustrate the England attack.

Conclusion & Betting Tips
England fans know the danger that Croatia brings after breaking our hearts in the 2018 World Cup. The Three Lions need to put that defeat out of their minds and take confidence from the fact that they were victorious against their opponents the last time they met, a 2-1 win in the Nations League.
Gareth Southgate has a decision to make in defence, with Harry Maguire almost certain to miss out and might call on the services of Brighton centre-back Ben White who was brought into the squad to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Manchester City and Chelsea players back in the team with starts for Mason Mount, Reece James and Phil Foden.
Although Croatia will fancy their chances against England, their recent form hasn’t been great. Although they won their last two games in World Cup qualifiers, they had been on a five-game winless run before then, even suffering defeat against Slovenia and conceded three times in a 3-3 draw with Turkey.
The bookies certainly feel England will win this one and have priced the Three Lions at 4/6. Croatia is available at 9/2, with the draw available at 13/5. It would be foolish not to think Croatia won’t be a goal threat as they have only failed to score in one game in the last eleven. Therefore, we are predicting a 3-1 win for England, priced at 16/1, 3-2 is also tempting at 40/1 with the changes in defence for England.
