Competition: The Premier League

Ronald Koeman’s players are now in an unenviable position after they lost 6 of their last 8 Premier League matches. Even though Southampton smashed Arsenal 4-0 at The St. Mary’s Stadium, The Saints dropped to 13th position in the standings and now they are involved in the relegation battle. Southampton are 7 points in front of 18th-placed Newcastle and The Saints urgently need the three points from their next match.

Watford are unbelievably good this season. Despite The Hornets loosing their last two Premiership matches (1-2 to Tottenham and Manchester City), Watford’s performance is outstanding. Their duo in attack – Ighalo and Deeney have scored 20 goals in total. The Hornets have also recorded fabulous victories. For example, they beat Liverpool 3-0 a month ago.

And every time these two teams meet at The St. Mary’s Stadium, there is no such thing as a ‘draw’. Southampton have won 6 of 11 matches. Watford have recorded 5 victories. But, when the match is at Vicarage Road, a draw is the most common result (6 draws of 13 matches).

Team News

Nathan Ake of Watford was sent off in the 63rd minute of the match against Tottenham. He was banned for three games and Ake will miss the match against Southampton through suspension.

Cedric Soares has received a groin strain injury and won’t play in the match against Watford. The defender has recorded 14 appearances this season.

Fraser Forster, Jay Rodriguez and Gardos are still on Southampton’s injury list. All of them are about to be fit soon, but will surely miss the next match.

Graziano Pelle missed Southampton’s last Premier League match against Norwich, but he has now recovered from his knee injury and will be among the starting XI.
