Despite being two points away from the 17th place The Magpies still need to earn some fresh points in order to keep their place in The Premier League. Newcastle managed to survive in the previous season, collecting 39 points. But The Magpies had earned 27 points at the same stage of the season. Now, they have collected only 17 and now their task is much more difficult.
Furthermore, Newcastle were knocked out of The FA Cup. Even though, The Magpies were simply better, they lost to Watford 1-0 at Vicarage road. A mistake in their defence let Troy Deeney score from a clear position. Now, Steve McClaren’s lads will have to focus on their performance in The Premier League and they will be desperately looking for the three points in the upcoming game against West Ham United at St. James’ Park.
The Hammers beat Wolverhampton 1-0 last weekend and qualified for the fourth round of The FA Cup. Nikica Jelavic scored his first goal for West Ham in the 84th minute and helped his teammates win the match. West Ham’s players are in good shape and they hardly lose away from home.
The Argentinian midfielder Manuel Lanzini is suffering from a tight muscle strain. The 22-year-old player will resume full training in February.
Diafra Sakho has the same problem. The Senegalese international is going to return to the pitch at the end of January.
Newcastle have bought Senegalese forward Henri Saivet. The ex Bordeaux player has scored 2 goals in 18 matches this season. He will surely sit on the bench. Jonjo Shelvey has also joined The Magpies.
8 players are on Newcastle’s injury list. Among them are Cisse and Riviere. That’s why McClaren wanted to sign a new attacker.
