The Premier League is back. After two months being starved of our beloved top-tier, football returns to the English pastures. The standout game of the opening weekend is undoubdetably the Old Trafford clash between United and Chelsea. A fascinating fixture in many regards, with new players and a new manager, this looks set to be a classic.
Predicting the outcome of a match between Manchester United and Chelsea is always particularly difficult. Both teams are relatively similar in strength, and without any form to go off except the relatively irrelevant pre-season friendlies, a clear favourite is not at all obvious. Looking objectively at the fixture we can ascertain Manchester United having a slight advantage. Riled up by two fantastic signings that will surely bolster their defence, they look to be the slight favourite going into this match. Moreover, the loss of Eden Hazard in the summer will drastically reduce the goal-scoring threat of Chelsea. Going forward, Man Utd offer the same as last season, and the fans at Old Trafford will certainly be expecting a lot more this season from the star attackers Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard.
Frank Lampard has put in match-winning performances at Old Trafford as a player in previous years. After a succesful season managing Derby County he will be hoping to ignite a new playing style in his squad and bring back some of the glory Chelsea have enjoyed in the past decade. With Champions League qualification being a minimum requirement of both teams this season, one can expect this game to be intense, balanced, and very tactical.
When playing at home, Man Utd have not lost against Chelsea in their last 6 encounters.
The new defense of Man Utd including Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are expected to start.
Chelsea have a new manager, Frank Lampard, a club legend has a tough first match in the Premier League.
Eden Hazard has left and Christain Pulisic is in. The American certainly has big shoes to fill in his role as a Chelsea winger.
