Man City look to down Mourinho and Co. in Manchester Derby
Last updated: November 8, 2018 by Leon Marshal
|Last Meeting:||Man City 2 – 3 Man Utd|
The Sunday teatime game sees free-scoring Man City face Mourinho’s men at the Etihad Stadium. This Manchester Derby is shaping up to be a good one. Under Guardiola, City have been ruthless so far this season and are unbeaten in the Premier League. On the other hand, Manchester United have struggled to find cohesion with Mourinho at the helm, despite of this results have started to pick up for United.
Manchester City is facing another period of absence without Kevin De Bruyne after the mercurial winger injured his knee during a comeback attempt. They are also waiting on the fitness of Ilkay Gundogan and Nicolas Otamendi who have both missed time recently. Even so, City has such strength in depth, there is always a world class replacement waiting in the wings. They have been ruthless this season and sit atop the premier league with 29 points and remain unbeaten. With 33 goals in 11 games, they are on pace to break their own record for most goals scored over the course of a 38-game season. At their current rate of 3.3 goals per game, they would be on target to score 125 over the campaign. Even with Liverpool breathing down their necks, Manchester City has been relentless and ooze talent all across the pitch. Sergio Aguero is once more their leading scorer in the Premier League with seven goals, but Sterling and Mahrez have also contributed six, and four goals respectively. This Manchester City team have been utterly dominant and with Ederson having seven clean sheets (the most in the league), their defence isn’t too shabby either.
In stark contrast, Manchester United’s season has been mired in controversy off the pitch, and Mourinho has faced intense pressure. There have been reports of rifts in the squad with star player Paul Pogba often clashing with Mourinho. The results also have been a mixed bag, with United struggling to stay on par with the top teams. They are already 9 points off the top and have only kept one clean sheet all season. Although recent form has been better, their performances have not exactly been convincing. In their last game against AFC Bournemouth, they needed a last-minute winner from Marcus Rashford to seal the victory. Having scored in two previous Manchester Derby’s, Rashford will hope to continue his goal scoring form in this fixture. Another player hoping to continue a hot-streak is Anthony Martial who has scored in four consecutive games. A player who was surprisingly left out of the trip to Bournemouth was Romelu Lukaku. Mourinho said he picked up an injury, but the severity is unknown, and it remains to be seen when he returns.
City will be hoping to extend their winning streak and get one over their arch-rivals in this passionate Manchester Derby. Historically, the Derby has gone in United’s favour, with United having 73 overall wins against City’s 51. Man City haven’t beaten United at the Etihad since November 2014, a run they are surely desperate to overturn. The last three league meetings have resulted in 11 goals, that’s nearly 4 a game. With the way City has been playing, and United’s leaky defence, it looks like this one could also be a goal-fest.
Manchester City will be without star winger Kevin De Bruyne after he picked up an injury at Fulham.
City are currently unbeaten this season, with nine wins and two draws to sit atop of the Premier League.
Manchester United have had a rocky start to the season and sit in seventh, but have won three of the last five.

Conclusion & Betting Tips
It is hard to ignore the way in which Manchester City have dominated the league this season, but a Manchester Derby is always full of emotion and anything can happen. Over at bet365 they have United at 9/1 outsiders, and a draw no bet at 8/1. These odds seem surely too good to pass up, considering the volatile nature of the fixture and seem worth a punt!
