When the draw was made that pitched these two together it was easy to see this would be the game of the round. Both teams play fantastic football, and Jurgen Klopp with be eager to get one over his old arch-rivals. Everyone is awaiting a spectacular game.

Liverpool arrested their recent slide in form with a comfortable 3-0 win against Bournemouth in their last game. After drawing two in succession they saw their grip on the Premier League start to wane. Even so, they come into this fixture well-rested after having the weekend off, by virtue of being knocked out of the F.A. Cup by Wolves in the third round. They have spent the week in Marbella, Spain and are sure to be raring to go in this one.

The Reds have not been at their infallible best in the Champions League this season, as last year’s runners-up only qualified for the last-16 with a dramatic 1-0 win over Napoli in the final group game. Nevertheless, they did win all of their home games, and are unbeaten in their last 12 games at home. They do have a small defensive crisis to worry about, with van Dijk suspended for one game (due to an accumulation of yellow cards), and Joe Gomez still recovering from an operation, and Lovren hampered with muscle problems. They will be hoping the attacking class of Salah, Firminio, and Mane can mask any frailties at the back.

Bayern Munich are the giants of Germany, yet they are not having it all their way this season in the Bundesliga. They sit in second-place, behind Klopp’s previous team Borussia Dortmund. What’s more, they have conceded more than one goal per game, which is something that could play into the hands of Liverpool.

They will also be without star striker, Thomas Muller, who is suspended after a reckless challenge in their previous CL match against Ajax. Nevertheless, they do boast the CL’s top scorer in Robert Lewandowski, who has 8 goals to his name, and is a force to be reckoned with. This is shaping up to be a very tasty game, with all eyes seeing how the Premier League shapes up against the Bundesliga.
