The Toffees, in their last match against Liverpool, managed to equalize in the first half stoppage time. Lukaku, Everton’s top scorer, levelled things to 1-1, proving his positioning skills in the box. Everton tried to pressurise in the second half and had several good opportunities to take all the points from the match but they came mainly after mistakes in The Reds’ defence. The Toffees have lost just one Premiership match from the beginning of the season. They lost to Manchester City 0-2; since then Everton have recorded some impressive results.
Manchester United were totally smashed in the 8th round; they lost 0-3 to Arsenal and proved the team don’t play well when they are away from Old Trafford. The Red Devils have not started their matches good enough so far. They need time to settle into every single game. That’s the main reason they lost to Arsenal. The Gunners scored three goals in the first 20 minutes, securing the final result.
However, The Red Devils are just two points below first place and if they win against The Toffees they can even lead the table.
Van Gaal has already admitted that after the injuries of Shaw and Rojo he doesn’t have a good left back in his squad; this is the main problem for the Dutch manager.
Ander Herrera (knock) is the third player who can’t take part in the match. He received an injury two weeks ago but is still not fit enough.
Everton’s injury list is still endless: Coleman, Besic, Hibbert, Pienaar, Cleverley and Baines all are unavailable.
English national defender John Stones has recently received a knee injury and will be off the pitch for a very long time.
Quotes of the week
Roberto Martinez (Everton) : “There is no advantage or disadvantage if you are favourites. It just shows you’re a big club and that’s what we want to have here.”
Louis van Gaal (Manchester United) : “I have won a lot of titles, and that was my aim.”
