The eyes of the entire footballing world are on the Bundesliga tonight as the two potential alpha title contenders go head to head. With just seven games left in the league, the significance of this encounter cannot be understated; A win for Bayern moves them seven points clear with six games to go, while victory for the hosts leaves them just one point short.

Dortmund have a real chance to secure their first title in eight years this season and a win tonight against their greatest rivals would be a huge step for Lucien Favre’s men. Both Dortmund and Bayern have won all their matches since the return of football, but this is undoubtedly the most significant challenge both teams have faced.

Dortmund hopes their most important centre back; Mats Hummels will pass the late fitness test after he went out injured at half time in Saturday’s win at Wolfsburg. Dortmund has lately been playing with a lot of swagger in their games and was the better side by controlling possession and always look threatening going forward.

Dortmund’s best player so far since the resumption of football, Raphael Guerreiro, opened the scoring with his eighth goal of the season against Wolfsburg. Highly rated Jadon Sancho has been struggling with a groin strain and has been restricted to the bench. The English youngster was still able to make his mark on the game though, in his cameo appearance, the 20-year-old created the chance for the second goal for Achraf Hakimi.

Two wins out of two since the return of football with the impressive one against rivals Schalke in the Revierderby have set the camp believing that this could be their season. They will first have to go up against their biggest opponents who have gotten the better of them to the title since the 2011-12 campaign, the last time that Dortmund won the title.

Bayern Munich is chasing their 25th title but one that would be the first title under their new man in charge Hans-Dieter Flick. In the reverse fixture, Bayern humiliated Dortmund with a 4-0 scoreline in front of their fans. This game being behind closed doors will suit the German champions well, the ‘infamous Yellow Wall’ is one of the most intimidating atmospheres in world football.

A significant subplot in tonight’s game will be who will prevail between the old master Lewandowski and the young pretender Erling Haaland. Lewandowski was the undisputed king of the Bundesliga goalscorers before the youngster turned up. Lewandowski is making a run towards a fourth “kicker Torjägerkanone” in five years with 27 goals so far.

Team News

Dortmund is just four points behind the league leaders with a win reducing the deficit to only one point.

Sancho is their top scorer with 14 goals, but Haaland is their most efficient converter with a goal every 68 minutes.

Bayern had the better of their opponents at the Allianz arena beating the 4 – 0 and will enjoy a less hostile away match without the home fans.

Lewandoski is in scintillating form with 27 goals and 40 goals in all competitions as he eyes the Ballon d’Or.

Conclusion & Betting Tips

The home team has been victorious in the last six consecutive matches in this fixture; however, the loss of over 90,000 spectators urging Dortmund on could be crucial. Bayern has the experience and firepower to win this, and the removal of the ‘Yellow Wall’ can only be beneficial to the champions.

Dortmund does have some quality individuals who can score for fun, and you wouldn’t be surprised if Sancho or Haaland made their mark on the game. However, that is also true of Lewandowski who has scored an incredible 27 goals already this season. Therefore our betting tip has to be the over/under goals market. Over 3.5 goals might be pushing it but is available @ 19/20 at bet365.
