This is not Stoke’s style

The season started a month ago and Stoke City are still looking for their first league victory. This is not surprising; The Potters have been very hesitant in their opening league games. But now they have signed players who are changing their style of play. When The Potters returned to The Premiership they played typical English football, with long balls, strong tackles and long throw-ins. Now they will need time to change their style because players like Bojan, Joselu, Afellay and Shaqiri are playing a different type of football.
The Potters showed a very strong team spirit, reaching the draw against Tottenham at White Heart Lane, being 0-2 down they equalized late in the game. But their good performance is dropping off with a poor show in their latest game. For example the last Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion, where they lost by 0-1.
Arsenal have also been hesitant from the start of the season. The Gunners started very poorly, losing 0-2 to West Ham at home. In the last match against Liverpool, at The Emirates Stadium, again Arsene Wenger’s players didn’t give a convincing performance. Furthermore, the defenders showed uncertainty and it is a pure miracle the team didn’t concede a goal.
The Gunners showed that they have a serious problem in front of goal. They have difficulties in setting up goal-scoring situations. It is obvious that they need another striker but they will have to wait for the Winter Transfer Window.
Maybe the only one who is playing at the top level is Petr Cech, who impressed with several world class saves against Liverpool.
Arsenal’s manager can’t rely on Rosicky (knee injury), Wilshere (ankle injury) and Welbeck again (knee injury).
Odemwingie and Shawcross are unavailable for Stoke due to injuries. Charlie Adam and Afellay are banned for the next game.
Quotes of the week
Arsene Wenger (Arsenal) : “So it is not a surprise that in England it becomes more difficult to win the games. After that, the phenomenon that is absolutely new is that there are few home victories. That shows that teams that go away from home have no fear any more.”
Mark Hughes (Stoke) : “I feel the support of the fans.”
