Competition: The Premier League

Arsenal are to host Manchester United in the 8th round of The English Premier League in a classic clash. The Gunners have been performing well in The Premiership so far but this is on account of their participation in The Champions League. Arsenal lost twice in the group stage of the most prestigious tournament to teams which are considered as modest (Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos). The question is whether The Gunners can shrug off the disappointment from their recent failure.

The Red Devils finally started to show what they really can do; they achieved 5 league victories and one draw, occupying first place in the standings. This is their first real test since the start of the season. United are not as dominant when playing away as they are at Old Traford. The Red Devils have lost two from their last three away games.

Louis van Gaal hopes his player’s form can remain at the same level and his team can take valuable points from visiting an inhospitable stadium like The Emirates. His new signing Anthony Martial proved his qualities immediately; after arriving at Old Traford he started scoring goals. In addition, Wayne Ronney showed he is now in good shape.

Team News

Alexis Sanchez finally found the back of the net in The Premier League last weekend when Arsenal visited The King Power Stadium. Alexis totally outplayed The Foxes’ defenders, scoring a hat-trick and helping his team beat Leicester 5-2.

Louis van Gaal has problems in picking his defensive line up; three of his defenders are injured. Luke Shaw broke his leg against PSV Eindhoven in The Champions League. Rojo is suffering from a hamstring injury. McNair has also received an injury and will be sidelined.

Mikel Arteta has recently sustained an injury and is unavailable for the derby against Manchester United. Flamini is suffering from a hamstring injury and misses the match.

Long-term injured for The Gunners are Jack Wilshere (fibula fracture), Danny Welbeck (knee injury) and Tomas Rosicky (knee injury).
